Light curtains are used to protect personnel from interacting with an unsafe area. Generally, we use light curtains to protect frequently used entry points into a machine.
If frequent access isn't necessary then we will incorporate physical guarding to block off unsafe zones.
how they work
Light curtains emit a series of beams across an open area.
With light curtains, there are pairs...one a receiving unit and one a sending unit. The sending unit emits the beam and receiving unit receives it.
There are different beam width spacing options.
Depending on the environment, beam spacing is scaled appropriate to the object detection size needed. Larger beam spacing is fine for foot traffic areas, to detect when an operator enters or leaves a cell. Smaller beam spacing is for higher risk areas, where an operator might place a finger or hand in an unsafe zone.
